Derrick Davis was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He’s the Author of “Judged By 12”, a must-read nonfiction based on his life from adolescence into adulthood. He is also the founder of “YouthMindsMatter ” a mentoring program geared towards advancing the education of at-risk youth (see www.youthmindsmatter.org).
Mr. Davis has been incarcerated since October 1st, 2006 for a murder that he committed at the age of 17 in which he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. After spending years in solitary confinement, and subjecting himself to the most inhumane treatments, Mr. Davis began to educate himself, and in turn obtained a sense of self respect, and refused to accept the notion that he was just another product of his environment.
On May 3rd, 2019, Mr. Davis was successful in appealing his case, and his life without parole sentence was reduced to a term of 21 years. He is now eligible for parole in the year 2027. He spends his days immersed in his work with YouthMindsMatter, and preparing for his return to society.
